So this is up for change on the ballot. There is a ballot measure to have us change the hiring and firing of the city manager and other appointed officers (city attorney) by a resolution. This would allow the mayor to veto any of these appointments. The last veto issue was the appointment of a new city attorney. The vote was done on a Wednesday, April 5th and passed. Our charter allows for the mayor to veto an ordinance or resolution within 2 business days of its passing per the council rules and procedures (5.1.4). This appointment was put in as a resolution even though it is against the home rule charter (Article VI, section 6-1). According to documents (see attached), the veto was not put in writing until the following Monday, April 10th. If we are to follow the rules and procedures, we should stick to all of it. This veto should not have been allowed. We don't need all of these changes to our charter. We just need the people we elect to follow the rules. Do not let the wording of these ballot measures confuse you. You can look at the information and you decide. Make sure and get in your ballot and let them know how you feel with your vote.
